It all started with a question: “gay people existed back then?” It sounds like a simple question, but this exhibit at UBC Library’s Rare Books & Special Collections highlights writings by, for, and about queer people over the past 150 years to help show that many of the issues we talk about now around sex, sexuality, and gender are nothing new.

Special Collections at Toronto Public Library

I was in Toronto a couple weeks back for a conference, and was so lucky to be able to visit the Merril Collection of Science Fiction, Speculation, and Fantasy at the the Toronto Public Library — so of course I filmed it (in 4k HD, no less!). The biggest thanks to Sephora Hosein & Kim Hull of TPL for sitting and chatting with me, and letting me come into the archives and capture some amazing footage of amazing materials.
